CHRIS KATTAN SNIPPETS 1999

"The Entertainers 99"

Entertainment Weekly 12/24/99

...As of right now, Ricky Martin, the singer's first English-language album, has sold more than 6 million copies and spawned three hit singles, including the inescapable "Livin' la Vida Loca." Like the President, he caused traffic jams when visiting Manhattan, and by the end of the year, Saturday Night Live's Chris Kattan had gotten him down cold...

"Surveillance"

New York Daily News 12/13/99

Michael Stipe celebrated his 39th birthday at a SoHo music studio, with pals Woody Harrelson, Annabella Sciorra, Liev Schreiber, Chris Kattan and Serena Altschul. Also there was Courtney Love, who told friends recently that she was indeed wearing underwear at the premiere of her film "Man on the Moon."

"Vogue Fashion Awards"

USA Today 12/06/99

...The VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards is, after all, the night to flaunt it, a night to vent fashion aggression, a night to display fashion obsession. Basically, it's for showing off outrageous clothes -- or the lack thereof...

Li'l Kim put on a mask -- prompting Chris Kattan to refer to her as ''Zorro'' -- to complete an I Dream of Jeannie get-up.

"Older 'SNL' Needs Newer Tricks"

Newsday 10/1/99

...Meanwhile, questions surrounding the current cast loom as well. In a recent CNBC interview, "SNL" boss Lorne Michaels said, "The contracts are up for a good many of the cast, and I think a lot of them ... are looking to move on." The likely evacuees: Ferrell, Chris Kattan and (possibly) Cheri Oteri and Colin Quinn. Molly Shannon, whose movie career gets a boost this week with the release of "Superstar," could be a goner, too. The good news: these losses, assuming they happen, will affect the 2000-01 season, and only indirectly this one...

"Meltdown"

Entertainment Weekly 5/14/99

Jon Stewart called it When Aging Comedians Attack. The event was the taping of the MTV special 25 Lame, which features Stewart, Janeane Garofalo, Denis Leary, and Chris Kattan counting down the 25 worst videos in history, as voted by more than 50,000 MTV viewers.

But the most dangerous participant in the special (airing May 8) turned out to be washed-up rapper Vanilla Ice. Since the top 10 offenders--including Don Johnson's "Heartbeat" (No. 1) and Eddie Murphy's "Whatzupwitu" (No. 3)--were forever banned from MTV, the comics destroyed the videos using a cigarette lighter, hammer, and blender.

But when the network asked Vanilla Ice to do the honors for his own "Ice Ice Baby" (No. 9), the Iceman, who showed up at the April 30 taping in a Dr. Evil T-shirt, took a baseball bat not only to the "Baby" videotape but also to the entire set, leaving cast and crew in shocked silence.

Stewart even suffered a cut on his hand from flying debris. "I could care less," Ice says of being included on the lame list, adding that going ballistic was a last-minute choice.

"I was genuinely afraid," says Garofalo. "I thought he was seriously going to get really angry on a channel that embraced him and then turned and mocked him." No--that'll be Jesse Camp's job.

"Ice Loses Cool"

The Washington Post 5/8/99

He wasn't being very nice nice, baby. During the recent filming of an MTV special dishonoring the designated 25 lamest music videos of all time, the has-been, back-again Vanilla Ice got a little carried away, trashing the set and reportedly scaring the bejabbers out of co-host Janeane Garofalo. Maybe that's because his "Ice Ice Baby" was one of the "winners," all of which are to be exiled from the network forever. Garofolo hosted the show with Jon Stewart, Denis Leary and Chris Kattan. It airs this afternoon.

In the program, Ice strode onto the set to deliver a copy of "Ice Ice Baby," which even he admits he can't stand anymore. After watching the video, Ice was handed a baseball bat for a symbolic crushing. And he shattered his video.

But he didn't stop there. Next was the table--sending a shower of popcorn to the floor. Then a mannequin of Debbie Gibson took a direct hit between the eyes. Finally Ice raised the bat over his head and prepared to hammer a VCR, but held back.

Afterward, said Ice, "I'm so ready to get rid of that video. Every time I go somewhere, it's ding ding ding ding-ding-ding-ding."

"No Don Johnson"

Usa Today 4/30/99

Poor Don Johnson. His 1986 video Heartbeat is topping the list of the ''lamest videos of all time,'' to be decided today on MTV and to air on a show called 25 Lame May 8. Jon Stewart, Denis Leary, Janeane Garofalo, Chris Kattan and others will place the 10 lamest in a time capsule, never to be seen again on MTV in their entirety.

"What's not to love--or at least mock?"

Entertainment Weekly 4/2/99

VH1's Behind the Music, with ads featuring banal musings from rockers like Mick Jagger, has emerged as the target of choice for satirists...the takeoffs really took off when Saturday Night Live began airing dead-on lampoons of the series. (Chris Kattan, as John Oates, reveals it was his idea to clap on Hall & Oates' "Private Eyes.")...The music channel was so amused it ran the SNL spots as a sort of Behind the Music promo...

"Groundling like it's 1999: Hot comedy commodity celebrates 25 years"

University Wire 3/29/99

The coming of the new millennium means only two things: you can worry about the future or have a ball at its expense. So go with the Groundlings for the year 1999...

The Groundlings, for those unfamiliar with the comedy theater, is the hottest comedy troupe in the nation right now. Boasting notable alumnis like Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, Lisa Kudrow and Pee Wee Herman. The Groundlings is now the primary bush league for Saturday Night Live cast members. Chris Kattan, Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer and Cheri Oteri are all SNL cast members who are still members of the Groundlings. And if you really want to know, the Roxbury guys and the overzealous cheerleaders are from Groundlings skits.

"1999 Catty Awards: Presenting F!D's annual Oscar fashionroundup of the good, the bad and the ugh!-ly"

The Dallas Morning News 3/17/99

It's time to look back with fondness at the fashion voodoo that Hollywood does do so well. The following style statements may not make Oscar' s list on the big night, but we hope this list of libertines will keep the memories alive...

JERKY JACKETS

Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell have a special glow that inspires an instant hangover in A Night at the Roxbury.
